Today’s post is less about teaching you to overcome the challenges of being a first-time leader and more about helping you enrich your personal life.
Thinking about things from a personal perspective seems especially relevant at this time of the year, and so I offer you this food for thought: “Memories are a treasure that can’t be taken from us. Create them regularly, purposefully and passionately.”
Over the next several days, you will have so many opportunities to create lasting memories for yourself and your loved ones. How will you take advantage of those opportunities? How can you purposefully create those memories starting today?
This time of year, I revisit the happy memories from my past. I revel in them to fill my “joy bank,” raise my spirits and end the year both mentally and emotionally healthy. I encourage you to do the same.
People have different experiences related to the holidays. While it isn’t my experience, I know that many find this time of year difficult. My words aren’t meant to deny that fact, but perhaps to help you refocus on the positive. Negative or destructive memories are a topic for another day.
I distinctly remember a walk by myself after my college commencement exercise. My most prevalent thought was that the diploma I had in my hands, and what it represented, could never be taken away from me. It was mine! That sentiment was accurate, and the memory of that moment is just like the diploma. It is completely mine.
Our memories provide a source that we can pull from when we need a mental or emotional boost, when we need to get through a tough day, and when we need a laugh. Don’t forget to keep filling the source. That is true at any time of the year, but especially during the holidays.
I wish you a wonderful season, filled with memories that last you a lifetime.
Happy holidays from me and the entire team at the Kevin Eikenberry Group.
